The principle duty of the Federal Government is the defense of the United States of America's citizens, borders, and interests. First among the means of providing this defense is the maintenance of a strong military. Through the commitment of financial resources, and the dedication of the men and women of the armed services we have established the most powerful military the world has ever known. We must continue to support these men and women, active and retired, who have given of themselves in the defense of this nation. However, the current wars in the Middle East and Central Asia have been waged at too high a cost. The time has come to bring our troops home. Effective diplomacy and intelligence combined with the latest technology employed by the military will successfully deny safe haven to terrorist groups. We must continue to invest in the future of our military and develop systems which will serve as a deterrent to enemies and a safeguard to our service personnel. Maintaining the military’s preparedness to face the conventional, asymmetric, and cyber wars of the future is of the highest national importance and ensures the greatest protection of our future.
