With global energy demand set to grow by 35% over the next twenty years it is necessary that we focus on both short and long term sources of energy. Affordable, reliable energy is absolutely necessary for economic growth. I support policies that promote the development of energy from all available and commercially viable sources. I also support responsible regulation that seeks to minimize environmental impact in both obtaining and using energy. To achieve this goal we must utilize a diverse energy portfolio encompassing petroleum, nuclear, renewable, and biofuels. Biofuels show tremendous promise and can allow us to bring the carbon cycle back into balance. I do not support cap and trade legislation. It will simply create price volatility for emissions and will carry a heavy cost for the environment and economy. I do favor continued improvements in energy efficiency standards for vehicles, homes and buildings. The standards the government sets forth must be predictable so as not to stifle economic growth and prosperity. I firmly believe we can meet our energy needs and secure a clean environment. Who would sacrifice the health of our children to anything less?
